Setup for iOS

This is a step by step guide for connecting your LIFX on iOS.
 
Getting Started


Before Starting: Please reset your LIFX light by turning it off/on 5x until it cycles - it will stop on white.

Set up one light at a time in a single lamp. When connected your bulb will save all its settings and you can move it to your desired location.

Make sure your setup lamp is near the Wi-Fi router, and that you are signed into the LIFX app, and ready for setup.

 
Turn on your LIFX Light *

It should shine at 100% brightness.

 
Does your LIFX light show as a Wi-Fi network, or as a device under "Setup New Device"? *


 
Direct Wi-Fi connection setup for iOS

The following steps walkthrough setup of LIFX when the light appears as a Wi-Fi network in iOS.
 
1. Connect device to LIFX light Wi-Fi *

1. Click Settings
2. Open Wi-Fi
3. Select the LIFX Wi-Fi
4. Wait for the check mark


Note: If you do not see your light, reset it by turning it on and off 5 times. It will color cycle and start broadcasting a Wi-Fi signal again. It takes around 15 seconds to appear after resetting.

 
2. Go to the LIFX app *

If you have already connected to the light, the setup process should start automatically. Follow the on-screen steps.

If it does not start automatically:

1. tap the “+” Button in the upper right
2. Choose Connect Light.



 
3. Connect your light to your home Wi-Fi *

LIFX only works on 2.4ghz networks.
If your 2.4ghz and 5ghz networks share the same name you'll need to rename one of them to differentiate them, unless you're on whole home wifi.

LIFX works with WPA and WPA2 security, we do not work with WEP security.

1. Select your 2.4ghz network
2. Enter your network password
3. Click connect

If your network does not appear in the list:
1. Click "Other"
2. Enter your SSID(network name)
3. Select your security (WPA2 is most common)
4. Enter your password
5. Click connect

TIP: Remember both Network name and Password fields are case sensitive

Advanced router configuration(if you have trouble):
1. ensure you are on channels 1-11
2. 1,6,11 are the best channels to onboard your lights
3. Use 20mhz band

 
4. Claim your LIFX light - Adds to Cloud *

1. Leave the location name, or select yours if you have a unique name for other lights already connected.
2. Click done
3. We will cover renaming the light in the next step.



 
5. Rename your LIFX light *

1. Tap the name of the light in the app
2. Tap the EDIT option in the upper right corner of the control screen
3. Tap the name of the light, to rename it. We've named this light "Table Lamp"
4. Tape the name of the Group.
5. Create a new group, or select from the list of existing groups. We've named this group "Living Room".
6. Tap Done.

TIP: Location is your whole home. Groups can be rooms (i.e. Kitchen) and lights can be named individually, for app control, and voice control.


 
6. Control the light in the LIFX app *

1. Your light should appear under lights at the top of your dashboard
2. Turn the light off/on by tapping power button icon for the light
3. Click on the name to open up the customization view
4. Select from Whites, Colors, Themes, and Effects
5. Move the color wheel around to change colors
6. Flick your finger on the ball in the middle to change the brightness
7. Press and scroll the small circle on the top to change the saturation

Make sure you have control of the bulb. Tapping the power button icon for the light will turn it on or off. Tapping the light name will allow you to control the color and the brightness.

 
iOS Wireless Accessory setup

The following steps walkthrough setup of LIFX via Apple's Wireless Accessory setup.
 
1. Choose light to setup *

Tap the name of the light, to start Wireless Accessory Connection.

 
2. Choose your network for the light to connect to *

Tap your network. If it does not appear, choose "Show Other Networks" and find your network in the list. Then tap Next.

 
3. After a few seconds your light should connect to the network. *

If you receive "An Unexpected Error Occurred" message, please try this process again.

 
4. Reset the light and wait 15 mins *

Tip: Set a timer
The Wi-Fi network will move from "Setup New Device" to under "Choose a Network"

 
5. Tap the gear in the upper right of the app *

This will allow access to settings for the light, for naming, grouping, and connecting to the cloud.

 
6. Tap Claim Light *

Here, you can rename the light, for easy use with voice control, and Claim the light to your LIFX account.

 
7. Group and Rename Light *

Tap the name of the light, to give it an easier to use name for voice features with Google and Amazon Echo.

Tap the Group to move the light to another group in your home.

 
8. Control the light in the LIFX app *

1. Your light should appear under lights at the top of your dashboard
2. Turn the light off/on by tapping power button icon for the light
3. Click on the name to open up the customization view
4. Select from Whites, Colors, Themes, and Effects
5. Move the color wheel around to change colors
6. Flick your finger on the ball in the middle to change the brightness

I can't see the LIFX Wi-Fi network *

If your bulb is connected and controllable in your app, it's connected to your home Wi-Fi correctly, and will not broadcast it's own Wi-Fi network.

LIFX (A19 and BR30), LIFX + (A19 and BR30), Color 1000 (A19 and BR30), White 800 (A19) and White 900 (BR30)
1. Reset your light (turn it on/off 5 times)
2. Wait between 15 - 30 seconds
3. Open your Wi-Fi settings and look for the light's network name "LIFX...."

If the light does not appear:

4. Turn off the light for 5 seconds, then turn it back on
5. Wait 30 seconds
6. Turn your Wi-Fi on your device off then back on

LIFX Original (E26, E27, B22 and GU-10)
1. Reset your light (flick the switch on the side of the bulb)
2. Turn your Wi-Fi on your device off then back on
3. Wait 2 minutes and check your Wi-Fi network list

If the light does not appear:

4. Turn off the light for 3 seconds, then turn it back on
5. Wait 30 seconds
6. Turn your Wi-Fi on your device off then back on

Setup for Android

The follow is a step by step guide to setting up LIFX lights on Android Devices.
 
Getting Started


Before Starting: Please reset your LIFX light by turning it off/on 5x until it cycles - it will stop on white.

Set up one light at a time in a single lamp. When connected your bulb will save all its settings and you can move it to your desired location.

Make sure your setup lamp is near the Wi-Fi router, and that you are signed into the LIFX app, and ready for setup.

 
1. Turn on your LIFX Light *

It should shine at 100% brightness.

 
2. Disable Cellular data *

NOTE: Disable cellular data before following steps below.

1. Place phone in airplane mode
2. Ensure that wi-fi remains on

 
3. Go to the LIFX app *

If you have already connected to the light, the setup process should start automatically. Follow the on-screen steps.

If it does not start automatically:

1. tap the “+” Button in the upper right
2. Choose Connect Light.



 
4. Connect your light to your home Wi-Fi *
